The best way to start your project is at Ohio Web Library: http://ohioweblibrary.org/
Have your Lakewood Public Library Card handy, as some of these resources may
ask you to type in your card number.
You can also access the resources through INFOhio. Click on "OPLIN" at
the bottom of the main page, then look for the Ohio Web Library icon.
The four links under "Students & Homework" will have good information:
1. Kids Search: search by keywords (such as "Albert Einstein" or "nuclear physics"),
then narrow your results by the Subjects listed on the left. Also, click "Images" at
the top of the first page to find pictures of your scientist and their projects.
2. Searchasaurus: start by clicking "Science & Math" then focusing your search to your topic.
Also, click on "Pictures" at the top of the first page and type in search terms (such as "light bulb")
to search for images for your project.
3. Student Research Center: search by keywords or narrow results by clicking on
the icon. Before you search, be sure to select the "Full Text" option under "Limit Your Results"
to be sure you can read the articles and biographies you find. Otherwise, you may get citations
to articles, which tell you the title, author and other information about the article, but do
not show the actual text of the article.
4. World Book Kids: start by clicking "Science and Mathematics." Keep an eye on the
options on the left-hand side of the screen to guide your search.
Other sources to look at in Ohio Web Library are "Biography Reference Bank"
and "Science Online." They are further down the list below the "Students &
Homework" section. They are excellent places to look for biographical information
about your scientist.
