Grade 1 - Ms. Sessin
Hi, class! Ernie Eagle here. Oh my stars and stripes, there are many symbols and landmarks that make us think of the USA. Let's explore a few!
Let's start at Ben's Guide:
Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids
Ben's Guide Symbols of U.S. Government & More Symbols of U.S. Government. You might even find something about me here!

Here are sites to learn more:

Devils Tower National Monument  This was America's First National Monument!

Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials - Do you know these landmarks?

Military Monuments and Memorials of Washington, D.C.  A "memorial" helps us remember. These memorials help us remember the brave men and women who serve our country.

The Alamo A legendary frontiersman named Davy Crockett became a fad with kids in the 1950s. He died at the battle of the Alamo, along with many, many others. The Alamo became a symbol of heroism and the struggle against great odds in the name of freedom. Today, older kids may know about Davy and the Alamo from a new film (2004 PG-13). Who is your "American idol?"

Washington, D.C.  Monuments and Memorials:
     Jefferson Memorial
     Lincoln Memorial
     Washington Monument
     Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
     Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Skyscraper Museum - Tallest Buildings These tall buildings are certainly landmarks! Do you think I can fly to the top? Of course you'll find New York City's World Trade Center Towers in this list. What do you think the Twin Towers symbolize? How did the symbol change before and after Sept. 11, 2001?

Golden Gate Bridge You've seen this San Francisco landmark! Another well known San Francisco landmark is the Cable Car.

Grand Canyon Some landmarks are found in nature and some are man-made. Here's one of our famous natural landmarks. I sure like flying around here!

The Great American Landmarks Adventure There are pictures to print and color on this adventure! You can also Learn More About Landmarks.

Just for fun, visit America's Story from America's Library (Library of Congress)
