Space Unit

"To confine our attention to terrestrial matters would be to limit the human spirit."

-Stephen Hawking

During our study of space, the students in the 2/3 Discovery Class at Grant became familiar with the universe, star formation, constellations, the Milky Way Galaxy, our solar system, the sun, planets, moon, scientists, astronauts, and space travel.

Student of space study Thanks to the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation’s generous funding of our “Reach for the Stars” grant, a multidisciplinary project that incorporated science, language arts, math, technology, and the arts into the study of the universe and space, the children experienced an exciting, in-depth learning experience.

Martha Holden Jennings funds supported our study of the universe both in our classroom throughout the school year and as we participate in Space Night; an evening of space related science, art, and technology projects, investigations with the CosmOdyssey portable planetarium, and an “out of this world” sleep over at Grant Elementary.
