Lakewood City School District provides excellent public education to the children of this community of approximately 58,000 residents. Lakewood Schools offer the widest variety of academic and extracurricular programs available in Northern Ohio. Children walk to neighborhood schools and enjoy a high level of family and community involvement. Our graduates are prepared and competitive in college and the workplace. |
Award Winning: The Lakewood School
District is recognized locally and nationally for excellence. Honors
include: Top 100 School Nationwide by Money Magazine; honored by the
State Board of Education, and has received the national "What
Parents Want Award" every year it has been given. This award is
presented to school districts most closely matching what parents look
for when Teachers earn local and national awards of excellence and millions of dollars in grants for special projects. Students are recognized regularly in each building and at the local, state and national levels for academic achievements, excellence in fine arts and community service. Fine
Arts Programs include music, art, orchestra and dance.

Academics: Our curriculum focuses on building a solid educational foundation while fostering a lifelong love of learning. This ia accomplished by teaching children the essential skills and knowledge they need to be academically successful and pursue their personal goals and dreams. Classroom instruction
includes hands-on experiences, cooperative learning and problem solving.
Children learn to share ideas, work together and stick Students receive excellent instruction in basic skills including mathematics, reading, writing and science. Lakewood Schools also provide enriching programs in fine arts, advanced sciences, sports, foreign language, journalism, community service and more. |

education tailored to students' abilities, interests, and goals;
Offers nearly 200 courses and 65 extracurricular activities; Schools organized into four Houses to create a smaller feel for smaller students. They remain with the same house principal and guidance counselors all four years; Excellent college preparatory program with 100% of college bound students passing proficiency tests; scoring well above national average on ACT & SAT tests; and 35% of our college bound students receive 1.5 million dollars in scholarship assistance to the colleges of their choice; Students choosing to gain specific technical training while in high school can do so through the award winning LHS Vocational Education program. Students choose from a wide range of courses including graphic printing, medical occupations, technology, fashion design and marketing. Students completing this program find jobs or continue education in their chosen fields; Advanced placement courses offered - students earn college credits while in high school. Last year 150 students earned credits in English, Mathematics, Foreign Language and Science. |
