The Unitarian Universalist Church

In May 1961, the Unitarian and Universalist Churches were joined as the Unitarian Universalist Church, blending their separate origins and histories. Unitarianism began with the Protestant Reformation among those who did not believe in the concept of the Trinity. Among its early champions were Newton, Locke, and Milton. American Unitarianism developed among members of the liberal wing of the Congregational Church. Universalism has much in common with several world religions. It is not exclusively a Christian denomination, having roots in pre-Christian and current world faiths. Unitarian Universalists hold to a wide freedom in personal interpretation and belief. The church affirms the worth and dignity of every person, a free and responsive search for truth and meaning, and the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
