READY REFERENCE     This selection of ready reference Web Sites, picked by the staff of Lakewood Public Library, is far from a complete list of sites for the various subject areas. However, we have tried to select sites which we have found to be useful, accurate and authoritative. Ready Reference uses a subject index based on Dewey Decimal Classification, a numerical classification scheme for breaking down fields of knowledge. We have kept our listing fairly broad by using the primary subdivisions.

Webmuseum: Famous Artworks exhibition
More than just the paintings (although they are numerous and beautiful!), here you will also find biographies of many famous artists and information ranging from the 13th to the 20th Century.
Artcyclopedia
An index of leading arts sites, with links to "an estimated 80,000 works by 7,000 different artists." Access is primarily by artist, but you can browse by movement, medium, subject and nationality.
Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco
This is an enormous searchable on-line art database. Access the Imagebase where you can use keyword searching to find paintings using artists names, media, nationality, things, adjectives and abstract nouns.
Don Markstein's Toonopedia
Encyclopedia of print and animated comics/cartoons.
StitchGuide
QuickTime videos and illustrations guide you through the most common stitches used in knitting, crochet, crochenit, tatting, and embroidery.
The Internet Movie Database
A movie lover's paradise! This is an enormous searchable database for both modern movies and older classics. Along with cast listings you will find summaries, technical information, ratings, quotes and much more.
TV Guide Movie Database
This site contains text from The Motion Picture Guide, Cinebook's 23 volume reference series and Ephraim King's Film Encyclopedia. More than 30,000 movies are reviewed in detail. Also included are filmographies and biographies of numerous actors, directors and filmmakers. Of the many movie sites on the Web this is one of the best. Search by film title or person's name.
TV Guide Online - TV Listings
Use "Edit Location" to narrow to your city and provider (cable, dish, broadcast).
Celebrity Street and E-mail Addresses
There are many celebrity address sites on the Internet. None of them appear to be comprehensive resources. In order to maximize your chances of finding the person you are looking for we are providing a link to Yahoo's celebrity listing. You should be able to find most names by browsing the sites provided.
The Ultimate Band List
There are so many excellent music sites on the Web that it is difficult to know where to start searching. The Ultimate Band List is certainly a good first choice. It is a compilation of thousands of different Web sites devoted to just about any band one can think of. Use the alphabetical menu bar for easy browsing. Be aware that, scattered amongst the official band sites, there are many personal homepages.
AllMusic Guide
This is an interesting and diverse collection of musical information. Search by album title, artist name or song title. Album listings often give a brief summary of the material along with release dates, label information and listings of personnel involved. Search by person's name for fairly detailed biographies as well as handy links to similar artists. This brief summary fails to do justice to an eclectic and worthwhile site.
Lyrics.com
Lyrics servers have come and gone, their data blasted with cease and desist orders for copyright infringement. Try this one and A-Z Lyrics Universe. Use Lyrics Search Engine-Lyrics Robot to find songs on a variety of sites. At the Song Lyrics Search Engine - GetLyrical.com you can even search for words in a song. Great when you don't know the title! Another excellent resource is the Mudcat Cafe's Digital Traditions Folksong Database with 9,000 folk songs, mostly public domain. See About.com's Top Ten Lyric Search Engines to keep up with this volatile field.
National Anthems of the World
Midi files and, sometimes, the text in English and the native language.
National Anthems
MP3s and lyrics.
Hickoksports.com - Starting Point for Exploring Sports History
We are including this sports site because it includes much historical and factual information on individual sports plus biographies of players. This is a well-organized collection, searchable alphabetically and by keyword. Numerous links to other Web resources are provided, as well as a number of different categories where much sporting trivia can be found.
Interlotto
All the lotteries in North America with the latest results from each.
