TumbleBooks, e-books for e-kids
TumbleBooks is an interactive, read-aloud website that offers a wide variety of animated, talking picture books. This website is simple enough for young children to use independently. When a particular e-book is activated, the text is highlighted as it is being read aloud to the listener. There are also tests and activities associated with the books. TumbleBooks can be used in the Main Library Computer Connections Room or remotely through the Library’s website, www.lakewoodpubliclibrary.com.

Staff provides materials and ideas for families to continue reading and storytelling at home. Each weekend features a different theme, everything from “Dance Party” to “Down Deep in the Ocean.” Visit www.lkwdpl.org/youth/weekends.htm for more information.
Summer Reading Club: For children age 0 – 18
Don’t let your children drop the reading habit when school ends. A great way to keep them motivated is the Library’s Summer Reading Club, held every year, May through August. Your child may choose to complete 30 books or 30 hours of reading. Kids visit the Reading Club table at the library to sign up for the club; they can return after they’ve completed a certain amount of reading to collect stamps and tickets toward prize drawings.
Lakewood Public Library Recommendations
Here are suggestions for books, both old and new, that children of all ages are bound to enjoy. We tried to compile a list that reflects a variety of genres and subject matter, avoiding the typical authors and titles and digging for those lesser-known gems.
