Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA)
Often the best way to find quality childcare is word-of-mouth. Lakewood is blessed to have LECPTA, an active and involved group of parents of preschool children. While they do not offer any formal childcare referrals, if you have young children and wish to find occasional childcare support or get opinions on quality daycares, join LECPTA and get involved. Lakewood Public Schools
The Lakewood City School District is an award-winning public school district excellent in academics, the arts, sports and community service. Students walk to neighborhood schools and enjoy a wide variety of programming. Partnerships with local colleges and universities, a Digital Academy, West Shore Career & Technical Education Program, and our Community Recreation and Education Department provide many educational options for students and families. 2009 is an exciting time for the 6,000 student district –four new elementary schools and two new middle schools are now open, completing Phase I and half of Phase II of a three-phase district-wide building program. Phase II also includes the complete renovation of the western half of Lakewood High School. The Lakewood Prekindergarten program offers Lakewood children an opportunity to participate in an early childhood experience tailored to meet each student’s unique needs and learning style. Funded by grants and local funds, the program follows the Lakewood City School District calendar and is staffed by a preschool teacher, special education teacher and two educational assistants. Classes are composed of eligible 4 year-old public preschool students and eligible 3-5 year old Early Childhood Special Education students. Tuition is based on a sliding fee scale, with financial assistance available. The registration process for eligible students begins in January of the preceding year. Begun in 2003, Lakewood City Academy’s goals are to keep all students on track for graduation, improve student attendance, expand learning, improve parental involvement and provide flexible instructional programs. Available to students in grades 6-12 for the Academy and K-12 for the Digital program, LCA offers various options for multiple learning methods, including academy-based learning, credit recovery, and both on-site and off-site digital learning.

The West Shore Career & Technical District serves high school students in Bay Village, Lakewood, Rocky River and Westlake and offers a wide spectrum of programs for students of varying abilities and career interests. Programs include Automotive Technology or Maintenance, Biotechnology and Business. Career Tech programs offer hands-on learning related to real-life experiences. Many students go on to college immediately after graduation.
