David Deming sculpture

David Deming sculpture of Ohio wildlife on both sides of the entry to the Children’s and Youth Services wing on the north side of the first floor. In this Lakewood-specific installation, one side is the artist’s expression of “lake” and the other side is “wood.”

David Deming is President and CEO of the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) and an internationally recognized artist. He has exhibited in numerous shows, including an American Sculpture Exhibition at the White House, and has works in more than one hundred public and private collections. This large, circular, abstract stainless steel piece is characteristic of many of Deming’s works but he is also well known for commemorative busts and plaques.

Before taking the healm of his alma mater, CIA, he was a member of the University of Texas faculty from 1972 to 1998. There, he held the Marguerite Fairchild Professorship, chaired the Department of Art and Art History and served as Dean of the College of Fine Arts.
